Sisters and brothers, just a month ago our brother Mario Ahumada wrote us the following message on the occasion of his birthday:
“To my special and dear friends, veterinary colleagues, colleagues at the University of Chile, work colleagues and students at the U. Viña del Mar, my mother and Maru who are in heaven, my sisters, cousins, cousins, nieces/nephews, grandchildren, sons-in-law, daughters-in-law, brothers-in-law and especially to Eduardo, Mario, Mario and Eduardo Ahumada. Viña del Mar, my mother and Maru who are in heaven, my sisters, cousins, cousins, nieces/nephews, grandchildren, sons-in-law, daughters-in-law, brothers-in-law and especially Eduardo, Mario, Jacqueline, Carla, Cami and Bety, thank you very much for the wonderful day you have given me with your greetings, attentions and gifts. I have felt very accompanied despite the difficult health circumstances I am going through and trying to assume and live with the best spirit, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, I love you very much and your love and concern help me a lot!!!!!!”.
Now, we came to know about his unfortunate passing. We are deeply shocked and saddened by his irreparable loss. The Food Sovereignty movement loses one of its main promoters. Mario Ahumada was an important part of the construction of the International Planning Committee for Food Sovereignty (IPC) and of the struggle for Agroecology in Latin America and globally. The seeds of dreams and hopes that he sowed will continue to germinate in many parts of the world and especially in Latin America.
Farewell comrade Mario Ahumada! May he rest in peace!
